Lowestoft Sixth Form College
Prospectus / Website
Following on from the design of the college's visual identity we were asked to design the prospectus for 2012/13. The previous prospectus had been created before the college was built so this was the first prospectus which could showcase their fantastic £25M facilities. We used a photographic led approach in order to show off the building and the unique spaces within the college. A group of students were willing models and we had a fantastic three day shoot with photographer Mike Harrington. 3000 were printed.
Once the prospectus was completed we used much of the content to design a website. Like the prospectus we wanted the site to showcase both the facilities and the experience. Once the prospectus was completed we used much of the content to design a website. Like the prospectus we wanted the site to showcase both the facilities and the experience.
To run alongside their open evening for new students we designed a set of badges for the prospective students to take home with them. We had three large perspex boxes designed which read, 'Study with us and see what you could be' which were filled with badges with a variety of professions on them such as architect, nurse, designer, international super star, journalist etc. The idea was that students put their hands in and picked one out at random to take home. There was much laughter and swapping of badges afterwards, a great talking point.

WREN
WREN is a not-for-profit business that helps benefit the lives of people who live close to landfill sites by awarding grants for community, conservation and heritage projects.
Brief: To design the 2010 Annual Review. Using WREN's rich photographic archive we created a poster format review, the A4 document opens out to A1. The challenge was to bring clarity to a very text and figure heavy document, to achieve this we highlighted interesting statistics such as the number of trees planted and playgrounds built using bold typography and illustrated with their photographs.

Capstone Wiley
Capstone Wiley publish a mix of inspirational business, self-help, personal development and lifestyle books.
Special Design Studio was engaged to design a cover for Beyond the Familiar by Patrick Barwise. The book offers a practical framework to help companies achieve long-term organic profit growth. It focuses on actionable customer insights flowing freely through the business and ultimately leading to consistently great customer solutions and experiences and a strong brand. The image of the tree reflected growth whilst playing with the familiar/unfamiliar proposition, it forces the viewer to look twice and re-evaluate what they are seeing.
We also designed the cover for Simon Middleton's book 'Build a Brand In 30 Days'. As the book is about branding, our brief was to create a cover which looked impressive, something cool, slick and contemporary that would speak directly to a buyer looking for a simple, direct, accessible and entertaining overview of branding. We also contributed to the book providing the expert view for Day 24 'Design Matters'.

Holidays from Home
Holidays from Home transport you on virtual adventures, currently to Australia, New York or on a worldwide chocolate voyage. Founder Claire Wade engaged us to design a new visual identity as a springboard to explore new projects and holidays.
The solution ties together the ideas of home and travel by using a schematic style house to represent a luggage ticket. The tipping of the images suggests take off and points up, up and away! Special Design Studio also designed a new website showcasing the holidays and Claire's blog.

Wavelength Films
We designed the promotional material for Stephen Fry's 'Wagner and Me' produced by Wavelength Films in association with the BBC.
The material includes quad size film posters for cinemas in the UK, Europe and the US. Inspired by a scene in the film where Stephen Fry enters Beyreuth for the first time, the poster captures his sense of awe and the scale of Wagner's music. The film won the Viola M. Marshall Audience Choice Award at the 2010 Rhode Island International Film Festival.

Hemsby & Newport
The seaside resort of Hemsby & Newport is on the beautiful Norfolk coast, 9 miles north of Great Yarmouth. Settled by Vikings in the late 9th Century, the name Hemsby is of Viking origin, (the suffix '-by' in Danish means "farm" or "home" or "village"), so presumably Hem's farm or home. Today, Hemsby has a resident population of about 2,500 people which can grow to about 22,000 in the summer.
As part of a drive to reinvigorate the resort’s appeal to potential holiday makers, we were appointed to create a new logo. The logo symbolises Hemsby’s new positivity and links its history with its status as a holiday destination.
